1970 Chevrolet Chevelle (2024)

Second only to the legendary 1969 Camaro in the poll of ultimate offerings for Chevrolet's first hundred years (1911-2011), the 1970 Chevelle Super Sport is one of the most popular muscle cars of all time. Simply put: this classic's appeal is undeniable, and this impressive LS6 coupe represents the best of what the marque was and is! This fully documented Super Sport features a 450hp LS6 big block, a storied 'Rock Crusher' transmission and factory Tuxedo Black over Black aesthetics. In the market for a documented example of one of the best Chevrolets ever produced? Here it is!

DON'T MESS WITH STRIPES!

Hailing from GM's storied Baltimore manufacturing facility, this stunning LS6 Super Sport shows the results of astute care and maintenance through the years that draws a steady cadence of compliments and admirers everywhere it goes. The car's straight and solid profile has been layered in factory Tuxedo Black 2-stage paint, which is dashed with iconic Classic White Super Sport Stripes. And today, this top dog Chevy rolls as a spectacular piece of timeless American muscle that's detailed to better-than-new standards.

Many enthusiasts believe the 1970 Chevelle introduced a host of excellent refinements that transformed the 'good' design of Chevrolet's 1969 model into something 'great'. At the front of this sinister coupe, a familiar crossbar grille hangs a prominent “SS” emblem between a small “CHEVELLE” script, stainless-trimmed headlights and a clean chrome bumper that's finished with clear parking lamps. Above that bumper, a correct Cowl Induction Hood anchors hide-a-way wipers between correctly tinted glass and traditional stainless lanyards. At the base of that trim, bright “SS454” badges combine with straight wheel frames, traditional door handles and a correct driver's mirror to add visual detail to the car's liquid-smooth profile. And at the back of that profile, a second clean bumper centers a black Super Sport inlay between clear brake lights, a classy “Chevelle by Chevrolet” emblem and spotless exhaust tips.

LS6

Although the second-generation Super Sport's ferocious Turbo Jet V8 was conservatively rated at 450 horsepower, it actually punched the dyno somewhere north of 500. Pull this classic's hood pins and you'll find a correct cowl induction system that's cleanly integrated into a completely finished, Satin Black frame. At the center of that frame, a correctly decaled, single-snorkel air cleaner forces oxygen in to a correct 4557 Holley 4-barrel, which is threaded onto a familiar Winters aluminum intake. At the back of that intake, a traditional points distributor sequences fire through hot AC-Delco-Packard TV-R Suppression cables. Naturally, the big block, bathed in vivid Chevy Orange paint, fronts a correct 3963512 casting number and February (B) 24th (24), 1970 (0) casting date with a correct "CRV” assembly stamp.

BEST OF THE BEST

Behind the big block, the storied Muncie M22 Rock Crusher hangs a correct 3925661 casting number in front of a Muncie (P) M22 ( C ) assembled on March ( C ) 16th (16), 1970 (0) build stamp. That gearbox twists torque to a correct 12-bolt axle that, according to its LS6-spec “CRV” assembly stamp, is built around a posi-traction differential and stout, 3.31 gears. Holding that killer drivetrain off the ground is a heavy-duty F41 Sport Suspension, which centers a trusted Saginaw steering box between stiff springs, boxed control arms and sturdy sway bars. Requisite power front disc and rear drum brakes increase stopping and handling ability. Aluminized exhaust pipes funnel charred dinos through factory resonators and brash mufflers. And at the corners of the car, correct Super Sport wheels spin F70-14 Goodyear Polyglas Custom Wide Treads around stainless trim rings and “SS” branded center caps.

WHAT ELSE BUT BLACK?

Decked in correct Black vinyl, this Chevelle's fully restored interior is both attractive and inviting. Its slick bucket seats are firm to the touch, showing no signs of detrimental wear and tear. In front of those seats, a familiar Super Sport dash anchors optional Deluxe gauges beside a correct Delco AM radio. Below that dash, a silver-trimmed console centers a polished Muncie shifter on clean carpet, Chevelle-themed floor mats and straight Fisher sills. Opposite that console, pick-free door panels hang tasteful stainless trim around correct chrome handles and requisite “SS” emblems. And in front of the driver, a simple Super Sport steering wheel keeps everything pointed straight.

We've become pretty accustomed to featuring a variety of excellent Chevys. That said, while we enjoy pretty much any Chevelle, nothing beats an authentic LS6! This fully documented coupe is an iconic car which wraps one of the hottest powertrains ever produced in an exceptional color combination. If you're looking for a pedigreed, investment grade classic, you're looking at your next car!
