** update ** I have just started a website at fifty8vw.ecrater.com if you would like to browse. You can search for whatever year or letters, etc. I started collecting after finding my initials on a tag. Some people look for engine sizes, birth dates or other special numbers, etc. You can order from my site or pick what you want and meet up locally. If you're interested in one or more, let me know and I'll manually adjust it to be correct. If you order more than two from the website, shipping will be incorrect so I'll refund the difference. Shipping is usually $6.65 first class for one tag and $10.60 for multiple (to a point).

I have around 2500+/- vintage North Carolina license plates up for sale or trade. I do buy lots from time to time as well. Also looking for any NC tags with KH designation (prefix or suffix). Price depends on age and condition!!! Here is my current inventory (subject to change).

If you have a classic automobile, you can display this tag on your car as long as you keep your real tag in the car along with the registration. Right now 1989 is the newest you can use on your car. It is a good idea to keep a copy of this law with you when using a year of manufacture tag as all officers are not aware of the law and sometimes the numbers/letters designation could actually be current in use on a modern car (it happens) reused on a modern tag. Here is the law concerning it, this is straight from the DMV.

You can have a Vintage tag displayed on the car, you will however have to purchase a "regular tag and registration" that must be kept in/with the car at all times so that at any time you are pulled, you will have the plate and registration card to show the vehicle is properly registered. Any motor vehicle of the age of 35 years or more from the date of manufacture may bear the license plates of the year of manufacture instead of the current registration plates, if the current registration plates are maintained within the vehicle. It falls under General Statue 20-63 (d).

Also would be cool to hang up in your shop or garage, etc for wall art, or just to silence your HOA about your project car that isn't ready to be tagged yet! Price ranges roughly between $5-50 (most) depending on age and condition. I have a few that are brand new never used. Pre 1970's tags tend to be more expensive and pre 1956 tags tend to be lots more expensive (especially pairs). Truck tags are also more rare and VERY sought after. I never know when I will run across more so check back to my website if you are looking for a specific tag. Please be specific in your e-mail as generic replies will be assumed as spam and ignored. Also, if you call and your area code is not local or neighboring, I probably won't answer due to excessive telemarketers. If you do call and I don't answer, leave a voice mail and I'll return your call as soon as I can. I am a car guy and love to see what they go on so please shoot me a picture once you get them mounted!
